Marpool Primary School

Believe, Achieve, Succeed

Spanish Day 2023

On Friday 3rd February, the whole school took part in Marpool’s first Spanish day. The children enjoyed a range of activities linked to Spain and other Spanish speaking countries.

The children in Nursery, Reception, KS1 and Juniper Base tasted some Spanish foods, with Year 2 reporting that the Serrano ham “is the nicest thing in the world!” They also learnt some basic Spanish phrases, listened to flamenco music and created artwork.

KS2 children were given a Spanish speaking location to focus on for the day. They were involved in research and creating a range of art, presentations and information texts that they presented to the school during assembly. They also were given a culture lesson by Señora Coakley looking at Colombia and a flamenco and salsa infused dance lesson with Señora Murray. The KS2 children shared their Spanish knowledge with younger members of the school, giving them a flavour of what they will learn in KS2. “My favourite thing about Spanish day was teaching the Year 1 children the dances moves and showing them the numbers up to five in Spanish.”

The kitchen cooked us a fantástico Spanish-themed lunch – the churros were a particular favourite!

A big thank you to the MSA for providing funding to help us make the day an exciting learning opportunity for the children.
