Marpool Primary School

Believe, Achieve, Succeed

Reception

Welcome to Maple and Holly Base!

 This week, we are:

-Sharing the story 'Once There Were Giants' by Martin Waddell.

-Learning about growing and changing.

-Knowing who is in our family and our relations.

-Talking about what we could do in the past compared to what we can do now

- Drawing a self-portrait

- Practising the song 'By Your Side' by Calvin Harris for Children in Need

-Comparing amounts using the language more and less.

To support us at home, you might:

-This week in phonics we have learnt the following sounds. Please help your child to say these sounds and begin recording them. Look for these sounds in the environment and play eye spy.

-Talk to your child about how they have grown  and changed over time. Look through photographs and discuss what they could do at different stages.

- Look at collections of things e.g. leaves, conkers, pegs, money, cutlery, biscuits. Put them into piles and talk with your child about which pile has more/less.

-A reading letter will be issued on Wed 13th Oct which outlines some key messages around reading.

Please continue to do 3 reads with your child and write a comment in their diary each time they read (see the letter for support with comments). Please return it back to school to be changed and hand it to an adult at the door. We will check the books on a Friday for 3 reads. Please make sure books are in school daily.

-Help your child learn to put on their coat independently. At school we teach children to do the 'Superhero' method: Hood on their head, arms in.

Thanks for your support with this.
