Year 6

Welcome to Beech and Rowan Base!

This half-term in Year 6:

Year 6 PE days for Summer B will be Thursdays and Fridays so PE kit is only to be worn on these days.

 This half term, we are:

  • Writing information texts about fictitious explorers inspired by 'Shackleton's Journey'. We will also be looking at playscripts inspired by our end of year production. 
  • Using the White Rose Scheme's projects in maths to problem-solve in real-life contexts.
  • Expanding our geographical knowledge and skills by observing and recording the physical and human features of our locality.
  • Learning about the classification of living things in biology. 
  • Learning how to read Ordnance Survey maps and understand their symbols and keys. 
  • Completing our final RSHE unit, 'growing and changing'.
  • Rehearsing for our end of year production: 'The School-O-Vision Song Contest'.
  • Taking part in various transition activities in preparation for our journey into secondary school.

Parent Information

Information about this half term:

  • Our PE days are Thursdays and Fridays. Children are to only wear PE kit to school on these days.
  • On Thursday 20th June the Heads Up Team will be leading an ECC parent meeting about transition in our school hall. This will start at 3:30.
  • Wednesday 26th June Year 6 will be carrying out fieldwork as part of our geography learning linked to our locality. We shall be spending the day in Exmouth, looking at the estuary and visiting the Lifeboat Station to see how physical and human features have impacted the landscape. We shall be creating sketch maps of the area.
  • Monday 1st-3rd July ECC and Sidmouth transition days.
  • Friday 12th July - Beech swimming session (more details to follow).
  • Friday 19th July - Rowan swimming session (more details to follow).
  • Tuesday 16th July - Year 6 Show matinee performance (more details to follow)
  • Wednesday 17th July - Year 6 Show evening performance at 5pm (more details to follow).
  • Friday 19th July - Year 6 MarpFest (Leavers celebration in the morning).
  • Wednesday 24th July at 2pm - Year 6 Leavers Assembly (more details to follow).
